When I originally created this piece, the story I thought of was of a woman leaning down to talk to her puppy, who was playing with a toy on her bed. Since then, I’ve heard various people assume she is a transwoman. I was a bit surprised to hear this, since it hadn’t been on my mind. Not surprised because I was upset about this interpretation—I was rather pleased, but also had to find what it was in the painting they were seeing that I wasn’t. I made a few changes to the painting since then. What is the story you now see? Is gender identity important to that story?

Prints are available in my Fine Art America Store.
